Services
We strive to provide the highest quality tree care to our clients. This care focuses on tree preservation and is motivated by the best interest of the property owner and their trees. The services include tree removal, tree pruning, stabilization, planting, insect/disease control, and stump grinding.

Tree Pruning:
Tree pruning enhances the aesthetic, safety, and health of trees in the urban environment. Pruning can greatly extend a tree’s life–especially when started at a young age. All pruning work conducted by Urban Tree Management follows Federal ANSI standards as well as the best management practices established by the ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) and will be conducted by a Certified Arborist.
Tree Removal:
Whether due to old age, disease, or structural problems all trees eventually reach the end of their effective lifespan. While we strive to preserve trees when possible, we recognize that sometimes pruning or stabilizing trees is not sufficient to ensure public safety and trees must be removed. Urban Tree Management arborists can safely and efficiently remove trees of all sizes using advanced rigging techniques and specialized equipment.
Stabilization:
A tree’s life can often be extended by the proper use of cabling or bracing techniques. Usually this becomes necessary when a tree has a structural defect such as a weak branch union. By safely stabilizing potentially hazardous trees their life is extended, thus benefiting the property owner both economically (they don’t have to pay for an expensive removal) and ecologically (the tree continues to serve the owner and community).
Planting:
The apparently simple act of planting a tree is actually fairly complex, so let us help you select and plant trees on your property. We plant a wide variety of species, but tend to steer away from those species that are invasive, poorly adapted to the urban environment, or over-represented in the regional forest composition. As with all of our services, we’ll first setup a time to assess the planting site, hear about your needs, and make recommendations. We work with several local nurseries to source high quality stock that will establish quickly and make an immediate impact on your landscape.
Plant Health Care:
In the tree care industry “plant health care” (or PHC) is often synonymous with chemical control of pests and disease that afflict landscape trees. Our viewpoint is that these pests and diseases are really a result of poor tree health rather than the cause.
Urban trees are predisposed to stress due to generally poor soil conditions, improper planting, inadequate growth space, poor air quality, and physical damage. Because of these they are more likely to host detrimental pests and diseases.
Our approach to plant health care is to provide a growing environment for trees that mimics the forest setting they are adapted to. This includes the application of organic mulch and compost to the tree’s root zone, choosing the right tree for the site and planting it correctly, and minimizing physical damage to trees that can occur during construction or over the course of daily events.
These methods are not sufficient in preventing all disease and we do employ the use of herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides when necessary. These include treatments for Emerald Ash Borer, Dutch Elm Disease, Oak Wilt, and Bronze Birch Borer.
Urban Wood:
We see trees in the urban environment as part of a continuous cycle. A tree is planted, for some amount of time it grows, and then inevitably it declines and must be removed. To complete the cycle of the urban tree we see a need and opportunity to make use of the resulting biomass. Good logs can be milled into lumber for furniture, flooring, or kitchenware; lower quality materials can be used as a biofuel to displace fossil-fuel use, or composted into quality soil amendments.
Stump Grinding:
When a tree is removed the remaining stump can be an eyesore and take up valuable space in the landscape. There is nothing more stubborn than a stump! Even a small stump can take many years to break down. For this reason we own specialized equipment that can quickly grind up stumps into wood chips. You can also elect to have us remove the wood chips and fill the area with soil, making it look like the stump was never there!
